Expert Health Talks – Facebook Live Series

As part of our commitment to supporting the health and wellbeing of our community, we have hosted a series of Facebook Live events focusing on a range of important medical conditions. Each session features an informative presentation from our GPs, hospital consultants, and specialist nurses, followed by a live Q&A where members of the public can ask questions directly.

Topics covered include Bowel Cancer, Women’s Cancer, Prostate Cancer, Respiratory Conditions & COPD, and Understanding Menopause. We invite you to explore these recorded sessions for trusted insights and practical advice from healthcare professionals.

Bowel cancer: Dr Brenton Fisher and Mr Neil Borley

Bowel cancer awareness

Bowel cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer, with over 40,000 new cases diagnosed in the UK each year. One in twenty people will develop bowel cancer in their lifetime. This session aims to raise awareness and improve understanding of the condition. With treatment options advancing rapidly, early detection remains key to a positive outcome. Dr Brenton Fisher and Mr Neil Borley shared their expertise and insights throughout the event, which concluded with a live Q&A that gave attendees the opportunity to engage directly with the experts.

Prostate cancer: Dr Jeremy Welch and Mr Edward Tudor

Understanding prostate cancer: symptoms, testing and treatment

Join Urology Consultant Mr Edward Tudor and GP Dr Jeremy Welch for an informative discussion about prostate health. This session addresses common concerns and confusion around the prostate, explains the role of PSA testing, outlines key symptoms to watch for, and walks through the referral process when hospital assessment is needed. The event concluded with a live Q&A, giving attendees the opportunity to ask questions directly to the experts.

Prostate health clinic: community engagement and early detection

Following the success of our Facebook Live event on prostate health, the Tewkesbury, West Cheltenham, Staunton, and Newent (TWNS) Primary Care Network hosted a special one-off clinic inviting male patients to speak directly with a GP about any concerns. Hundreds of men from across Gloucestershire attended the event, which provided personalised advice, information, and access to testing for possible signs of prostate cancer and related conditions. This initiative followed a livestream that reached over 5,000 people and highlighted the importance of awareness, early detection, and proactive healthcare for one of the most common male cancers.

Women’s cancer: Dr Madhavi Vellayan and Dr Caroline Butler

Understanding women’s cancers: cervical, ovarian and endometrial

In this session, Consultant Gynaecologist Dr Madhavi Vellayan and GP Dr Caroline Butler discuss the signs and symptoms of cervical, ovarian, and endometrial cancers. They provide guidance on what to look out for, when to seek help, and what screening options are available. The session also includes a Q&A addressing common concerns and practical next steps for those seeking more information.

Respiratory and COPD

Managing respiratory conditions & COPD

Specialist Nurses Lisa Healey and Anne Williams, along with Dr Jeremy Welch, lead this session focusing on Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and other respiratory conditions. Topics include the causes and symptoms of COPD, how to recognise and respond to exacerbations, and practical strategies for managing your condition—particularly during the winter months. The session also features a live Q&A to support patients and carers.
